DC  The home of Classic soul, jazz funk & boogie

The Dancfloor Classics studio has recently been updated with some new and some "retro" equipment.

For the anoraks among us, here are the details:

NEW:

Denon DN-HC4500 controller with BU4500 CD rack unit.

The DN-HC4500 is a 19" rack mounted midi and USB control unit that operates Traktor pro2 software on the studio PC. The music database is stored on a 1T external hard drive and any song(s) can be called to play on up to four digital "virtual" decks to play or mix.

The controller is also connected to a new BU4500 twin rack mount CD tray for playing and mixing conventional CD's.

This unit replaces the Denon CD player previously installed.

NEW:

Focurite Platinum Trak Master Pre-amp / Compressor.

Focusrite make some of the worlds finest hi-tech studio equipment. The Trak Master is a discrete microphone pre-amplifier, Optical Compressor and 3-band equalizer sections. It is used on the second (guest) microphone.

NEW:

Focusrite Platinum Compounder / Stereo Compressor / Limiter / Noise Gate / Bass Expander

Installed to cater for the requirements of studio clients who want high quality stereo compression on the output signal. This unit features a "Class A" compressor stage which controlls peak volume peak levels and a "brick wall" limiter preventing signals peaking over maximum level. It also has a bass expander that can add low frequencies to bass light recordings or those attenuated by normal compression techniques.

Newly Installed S/H - Retro

For many years DAT (Digital Tape) was the world standard for stereo digital master recording. Whilst this format is now outdated by solid state recorders (such as our Denon DN-F650R), some of our clients still require the facilty to play back DAT tapes. DAT is also excellent for keeping a "hard copy" for safety and archiving. For this reason we have replaced or semi-pro Tascam DA20mk2 DAT recorder with the iconic industry standard Panasonic SV-3800 recognized universally as one of the best digital tape recorders ever made, it originally cost Circa £1800, be we picked ours up for £85 on Ebay! It was in good physical condition and had low hours of use, but not having been used for several years it required a complete ovehaul and service. Our engineers lovingly restored it to full working order.

Newly Installed S/H - Retro

Like DAT tape, minidisc is format that has all but vanished with the advent of mp3 players. However, the format won favor in the radio production and broadcast industry because of its convenient size, high quality audio and comprehensive editing capabilities. our old and very worn Denon DN-M1050R has long been out of service requiring expensive attention, so we have acquired a Sony MDS-E11 rack mounting recorder / player from a closed down radio station. The Sony is in great working order and now has a new lease of life in our studio playing jingles and inserts.

Pictures of these new devices can be found on this website, go to "the Studio" then "Pictures" and look for the equipment racks.
